WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 1st – 7th AUGUST 2012

Scovia with baby Deus (2 weeks) Bwindi Community Hospital, Uganda.

Breastfeeding has long been hailed as the best form of nutrition for a new born baby and is often recommended for at least the first six months of an infants life. Unfortunately only 32.6% of the worlds 136.7 million babies born each year are exclusively breastfed for this period of time. Many mothers are not educated about the benefits of breastfeeding or have cultural obstacles preventing them from doing so. As the world encourages and celebrates breastfeeding STARS takes a look at Bwindi Community Hospital and how they support and help mothers and their babies. Meet Stella and find out how the team at Bwindi helped her to breastfeed her 3 month old.
